Artist Statement

Ryan Barnes Drawing.jpeg

I am an ambitious artist who enjoys introducing play and experimentation in my studio practice. I have been known to take extensive notes on mediums I use and experimentations (some of which actually won me a tablet once). The mediums I am most passionate about using are acrylic paints and digital painting.

A lot of my inspiration comes from comic/manga art, the pop art movement, and modernism. I look at art history a lot for motivation. It really helps me see the different paths artists took in the past to overcome their obstacles and really put into perspective how I can overcome my own, contemporary obstacles both on canvas and in the world around me.

My art is really a means of communication, building connections, and processing the world around me. A lot of my art is self-expression by nature, centering around lived experiences.
